First Things First

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blogspot! Long story short: I'm an amateur  "upcycler" seeking to contribute my 2 cents to the exchange of unique and useful ideas for turning trash into treasure. I just love upcycling for many reasons, these being the top 2 contenders:

  1. When you upcycle, you are saving money while saving the environment...it's a 2fer!
  2. Upcycling provides a conscientious artistic outlet, allowing one to create with a sense of historicity and functionality.
What exactly, you may ask, is "upcycling"?
According to Wikipedia.org (as I am not writing a dissertation, I will unashamedly reference consensus of public opinion): "Upcycling is a component of sustainability in which waste materials are used to provide new products." In other words: upcycling involves creating "new" items ~ resulting in increased functional and/or aesthetic value ~ from objects which may otherwise be thrown away, recycled, or left unused.

A few examples from other ambitious artists:

What is that you say? Not enough time, money, or resources to tackle the above? Never fear: Reclaimed Refuse is here! While the projects featured above are wonderfully creative and extremely useful, they do require a certain level of enterprise and commitment of time and resource ~ which, let's be honest, many of us do not have the luxury of on a regular basis. Summer project? Perhaps. However, until then, I've decided to dedicate this blog to sharing quick, easy, and budget-friendly upcycling projects for everyday improvement of what otherwise might end up in your trash bin or the dank recesses of your basement.
Enjoy!
